A few weeks ago, my ten year old was lying in bed with me and Marcia and out of the blue, he said, “I’m grateful I have a wonderful life.”
I’m sure you can imagine the surprise and delight I felt hearing my child express such gratitude. It made me think, “Hey we’re pretty decent parents after all.” But seriously, this says a lot about Ian’s attitude.
Just like you or me, he has things he could be complaining about. He struggles a bit in school with dyslexia, even though he is also “gifted” and incredibly smart. His baseball team just finished last in their big tournament. Many of his best friends are out of town for holidays at the moment.
Yet Ian focuses on the positive.
That’s a great reminder to all of us. Take a moment now to recognize and appreciate a few of the gifts you have.
